Motivation - Discipline - Life

Motivation – Discipline – Life

There’s a big difference between “I’m going to try” and “this is just what I do now.”

Right now at CrossFit Fortis, we’re about one month away from celebrating something pretty incredible:

We’ve got a large crew of members who have committed to at least 14 sessions of fitness every single month
Not for a week.
Not for a 30-day challenge.
For a Full year – Consecutively!!!

And the powerful part isn’t the tally on the board.

It’s watching the shift from “I’ll try to get in” to “this is just what I do now.”

It Started as Motivation…

At the beginning, it was fun.

There was a challenge.
There were stickers.
There was a goal:

“Hit 14+ classes this month and earn your spot.”

People were fired up. Checking their class counts. Making sure they got in. Pushing to not “break the streak.”

At first, it was motivation-driven:

  • The excitement of a new challenge
  • The reward of a sticker on the board
  • The accountability of seeing your name up there

There’s nothing wrong with that. Motivation is often what gets you through the door in the first place.

But if you’ve ever relied only on motivation, you know the truth:

Motivation fades.
Life gets busy.
The “new” feeling wears off.

So what happens after that?

…Then It Became Discipline

Somewhere along the way, something shifted.

For these members, it stopped being:

  • “I hope I make it in.”
    and became:
  • “I am going in.”

Not “if.”
Not “maybe.”
Just when.

They started:

  • Planning their week around training
  • Booking classes ahead of time
  • Showing up on the days they didn’t feel like it
  • Treating their workouts as non-negotiable

That’s discipline.

Discipline is:

  • Getting it done when no one’s watching
  • Showing up when you’re tired
  • Coming in even when the workout isn’t your favourite
  • Doing the work because you said you would

At this stage, the sticker on the board was still there—but it wasn’t the point anymore.

They weren’t just chasing a reward.
They were building who they are.

And Now… It’s Just Who They Are

Here’s the really powerful part:

For many of these members, hitting 14+ classes a month isn’t a stretch now.
It’s normal.

It’s become as routine as brushing your teeth.

You can skip a day. Sure.
But it feels weird.

You feel off.
You notice something’s missing.
You catch yourself thinking, “I need to get back in tomorrow.”

That’s when you know you’ve crossed the line from:

  • Motivation → “I feel like it.”
    to
  • Discipline → “I said I’d do it.”
    to
  • Way of life → “This is just what I do.”

At that point, fitness isn’t this huge mental battle anymore.
It’s not a dramatic restart every Monday.
It’s not something you have to hype yourself up for.

It’s simply part of your identity.

“I train. I take care of myself. I show up.”

And that is exactly what we want for you.

This Is What We Thrive For

To those who have made that shift and are living it right now:

👏 Massive congratulations.

You’ve:

  • Turned workouts into routine
  • Turned effort into identity
  • Turned “I hope I stick with it” into “I don’t miss”

You might not even realize how big that is, because it feels normal now.

But it’s not normal.
It’s special.
And you should be proud of it.

You didn’t just sign up.
You committed.

You didn’t just chase a sticker.
You built a lifestyle.

What’s Holding You Back?

Now let’s talk to the other side of the room for a second.

Maybe you’ve been:

  • Inconsistent
  • Stuck in “on/off” cycles
  • Telling yourself you’ll start again “when things calm down”
  • Watching others make progress and wondering why it never sticks for you

This isn’t about shame.
This isn’t about judgment.

This is about honesty.

What’s actually holding you back?

  • Time?
  • Fear of not being fit enough yet?
  • Feeling like you’ll be judged?
  • Not knowing where to start?
  • Trying to do it alone… again?

Whatever it is—we can help with that.

Fitness as a Way of Life (Not a Project)

Our goal at Fortis isn’t for you to “crush a 6-week challenge” and disappear.

We want fitness to become:

  • A normal part of your week
  • As automatic as going to work
  • As standard as making coffee in the morning

We want you to get to a place where:

  • You don’t have to fight yourself to train
  • You don’t have to negotiate your health
  • You don’t constantly wonder, “Will I fall off again?”

Because when fitness is a way of life, you:

  • Don’t panic about “getting back on track”
  • Don’t feel guilty about every little thing
  • Don’t question if you belong in the gym

You know you do.
Because it’s who you are now.

You Don’t Have to Do It Alone

Making that transition—from motivation to discipline to way of life—is hard to do by yourself.

You might need:

  • Accountability
  • Coaching
  • A structured plan
  • Someone to call you on your excuses
  • A community that cheers for you when you show up and when you struggle

Needing help doesn’t mean you’re weak.
It means you’re serious.

We’ve watched member after member at Fortis cross that line…
From hesitant and inconsistent to:

“I train. It’s just what I do.”

And now it’s your turn.
