“My CrossFit journey began in 2010 as a solo effort in a “regular” gym. Programming my own workouts and “WODding” on my own lead to inconsistent results. Everything changed when I joined CrossFit Fortis in 2012. Thanks to the skill, motivation and infinite patience of the Fortis coaching staff, I’ve significantly improved in all of the elements of fitness, far beyond what I could have achieved on my own.

Skills which once seemed impossible – handstand push-ups, rope climbs, bar muscle-ups, a proper overhead squat – are now routine.

“I’m proof that CrossFit isn’t just for the young and fit…. My daughter, a member of CrossFit Fortis, tried to convince me to join ever since I retired several years ago. “There is no way I can do that”, I said. I’d seen the group workouts and I felt intimidated. Eventually she wore me down and I agreed to try one of their free sessions offered on Saturday mornings.

As it turned out, I didn’t have to keep up with anyone else. Dan Baribeau, the owner and coach, scaled everything to a level I could handle and I ended up working as hard as everyone else at a pace that was safe and doable for me.
