“You don’t set out to build a wall. You don’t say ‘I’m going to build the biggest, baddest, greatest wall that’s ever been built. ‘ You don’t start there. You say ‘I’m gonna lay this brick as perfectly as a brick can be laid,’ and you do that every single day, and soon you have a wall.”  Will Smith

We’ve used many tag lines and slogans over the years. Part of it is branding, part of it is motivation, part of it is just connecting with and really feeling something. Some develop organically, some are influenced by pop culture or something we’ve seen somewhere, some are from members or coaches and then some just grab you. Hit you like a lightning bolt. Get you excited and the energy and creativity just starts to rise.

The last 4 or 5 months have been some of the toughest, longest months most have ever had to deal with. Businesses and schools shut down, daily routines and habits destroyed, loved ones lost and more. For most physical and mental health have taken a beating over this time. We’ve done everything in our power to push through, to help and motivate our community and to be one constant through this time. A lighthouse or beacon for them in the otherwise dark and stormy seas.

As we all slowly start to come out the other side of this all we are starting anew. Slowly building or rebuilding ourselves, our business, our community, our physical, emotional and mental health. And we’re doing this all….Brick by Brick.

It’s easy to be intimidated or discouraged by the “big picture’, by the “end goal”. It looks impossible or unattainable if you look too far ahead. If you instead concentrate on the small task in front of you, the small step you need to take, the small goal you can accomplish, you set yourself on the path to achieving your big picture. To building your wall.

Often members will look at the Whiteboard and let the entirety of the Workout get them down. If they focus instead on each rep, on each movement, it’s far less daunting task. When trying to lose weight or improve nutrition or recovery habits, clients will often get discouraged as it seems impossible. Starting with one small change, or one brick at a time is much easier and achievable. Laying one brick every day and looking back in a few weeks they soon realize, “Holy shit! I’m building a wall.”

As a business, the pandemic forced closure alone was enough to bring a lot of gym’s and gym owners to their knees. Add in an insensitive and ignorant scandal at the top of CrossFit HQ and things were looking low. They’ve begun building back up and we’ve been doing the same. Concentrating on what we could control and achieve. One brick at a time. Taking care of our members, our family and leading from the front. We’ve been laying bricks every day with the bigger picture in mind. A rock solid wall, a foundation on which our community can survive and thrive and grow together.

We want you to lay your first brick to a better you by walking in the door at Fortis. We then want to help you lay the next brick and the next. Getting stronger. Moving better. Gaining confidence. Having fun. Whatever your bricks look like to you, let us help.

Together we’re building something strong. Something special.Together.

Brick By Brick.
